Public Lake Access and Amenities

While most of Lake Otis is lined with private homes, there is a public boat ramp available for residents and visitors. 

This access point allows boating, kayaking, and fishing on Lake Otis. There are no public swimming areas, but the ramp provides an important entry for those who want to enjoy the water. Residents also note that alligators are rarely seen in Lake Otis, making it a calm environment compared to other Florida lakes.

Water Skiing

Lake Otis is located next to Cypress Gardens. 

Winter Haven’s legacy in water sports is inseparable from Cypress Gardens, the iconic attraction that opened in 1936. Founded by Dick Pope Sr., Cypress Gardens became world-famous for its dazzling water ski shows, introducing stunts like the human pyramid and helping to popularize the sport across the globe. These performances, set against manicured gardens and sparkling lakes, earned Winter Haven the title of Water Ski Capital of the World. Though the theme park has since closed, its influence remains woven into the city’s identity, celebrated through local ski clubs and ongoing performances on nearby lakes.
